SUPER Senior: Ajax

Ajax

Super Senior Wheaten dog Ajax

Ever since I could remember, I wanted a wheaten terrier and I knew he would be “Ajax.” My dad used to own a business in New Jersey in the 70s called “Ajax Batteries” and that’s where his name came from. Of course, I like to tell people he was named after the Greek warrior of great courage, which is funny if you know Ajax – he is as submissive as they come.

We became a team in December 2004. It definitely was not a “love-at-first sight.” He tested me beyond where I thought my limits were – he was as crazy and stubborn as they come. He failed 2 training classes and went through 2 private trainers – no one knew how to channel his energy. He came everywhere with me and in a very short amount of time, he became my buddy, my best friend. I never thought I could love a dog like I love Ajax. It breaks my heart that they can’t live as long as we can. So we celebrate his 12th Birthday today and I cherish every moment, every second I have with him.
