IN THE KITCHEN WITH KARLA HEALTHY VEGGIE BONES Bark up the right tree with this pawfect recipe. If you are looking for something creative to do on a long summer afternoon, give this veggie bone recipe a try. Your pup is sure to enjoy munching on this nutritious snack. Remember to count each serving into your four-legged friend’s daily calories to help keep your Wheaten healthy. Ingredients: 3 Cups minced parsley ¼ Cup carrots, chopped very fine ¼ Cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese 2 Tablespoons olive oil 2 ¾ Cups whole wheat flour 2 Tablespoons baking powder ½ to 1 Cup water Directions: Preheat oven to 350º and lightly grease a large baking sheet. Stir together parsley, carrots, cheese, and oil. Combine all the dry ingredients, then add the veggies. Gradually add ½ cup of water, mixing well (the dough should be moist, but not wet.) Knead for one minute and roll the dough out to ½ inch thickness. Using a bone shaped cookie cutter or a drinking glass, cut out shapes and transfer them to the baking sheet. Bake for 20 – 30 minutes or until the dough has browned and hardened slightly. *Remember if your dog has a pre-existing condition, consult your Veterinarian before adding a new food to your Wheaten’s diet. ********** Grant me a sense of humor, the saving grace to see a joke, to win some happiness from life, and pass it on to other folk. |
