is a problem with his vision.

Hearing can go, too. As the dog ages the accumulation of time, infections, mites, and waxy buildup can affect his hearing. The best offense is a good plan to protect his hearing throughout his life. Teach your dog some hand signals when he is a youngster, and it may help when he is a senior.

Like us, dogs can become senile. Is it from a hearing or sight loss? A dog that is unable to see or hear is easily confused. This can lead to anxiety. Holding and calming the dog may ease the confusion. There are also medications that help. Again, see your vet and get advice.

Be patient, if we live long enough it will happen to us all. Keep good health records for each dog, taking care of problems before they happen may help. Even if their only activity is a car ride each day, keep them interested in life. Shorter walks may ease the joint pain, but keeping moving helps us all. Each life is precious and dogs deserve our best efforts to help them down the road.

WHAT’S A DOG AND PONY SHOW?

The expression “dog and pony show” first made its appearance in the 1890’s. They were small circuses, usually offering little more than a small band, a ringmaster, and animal acts consisting of dogs and ponies. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that its common usage began to apply to putting on a show without any substance to it. Rather insulting to the dog and pony world when you get right down to it.

************

I could have wealth beyond my dreams,

But where would the joy be in that?

And I could travel the seven seas,

But I would always come back.

Everyone could know my name,

And there would be no peace.

I could have undying love,

And heartaches still increase.

No, if I were wealthy beyond my dreams

(And where is the joy in that?)

It wouldn’t buy friendship such as yours…

And there is JOY in that!
