HIPPIE DIP

Ok this may not be for everyone, but here’s an herbal infusion that makes a nice dog rinse or summer spritzer for tired canine coats.

It can be used as the final rinse in your dog’s bath or use it in a spray bottle to lightly mist your dog’s coat when grooming.

1 Tablespoon organic cider vinegar

1 Chamomile, rosemary, or peppermint herbal tea bag (experiment and see which smell you enjoy the most)

Loose herbs (nettle, comfrey and/or calendula)

A few drops of glycerin (you can purchase at most drug stores)

Boil two cups of water and pour over the tea bag and loose herbs of your choice (again use the smell you like the most). Cover and steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove the tea bag. Cool, then strain to remove the loose herbs. Add the vinegar and glycerin. To use as a bath-time rinse, dilute this solution with one or two cups of water; for a grooming rinse, leave undiluted. Make sure to label (date, list ingredients) and refrigerate leftover infusion. Note: if you are using roots, seeds or barks such as ginger, fennel, or valerian, soak them in cool water overnight and then boil for 10-15 minutes before following the above steps.

TRAIN DON’T COMPLAIN

On the following pages you will find some local trainers who offer classes, show training, and in home training. Here is a book you might enjoy too, “How Dogs Think” by Stanley Coren. This is a good book for those of us that share our lives with dogs and wonder what they are thinking about. You’ll find it wherever books are sold.
